Radar Eye

Here is my painted radar eye. There are some imperfections on the piece that I chose to leave "as is". My design is not going to be too worn, but I don't want him having a "fresh out of the factory" look either. Slight imperfections, chips and scratches are welcome here.

On a side note, I finished cutting my pie panels out of the dome. Two panels are painted and complete. Four more with base coats of paint are currently drying. I chose to go with Rustoleum's Cobalt Blue Metallic without the purple undercoat... not quite true to Artoo's coloring, but close enough for my droid.

Hey man,

Just thought I'd leave you a comment. I hope you don't mind. I am using the Coblat blue metallic in my Kryder's blue as well. I start with a mist coat of gray auto primer, then a full coat of the same primer. Then two coats of cobalt blue metallic followed by two more coats of anodized blue. Then three coats of clear coat. The color indeed is not exact, but it is very pretty in the sunlight.

If you wish, you can visit my site:

Also, I would like to add a link to your site on mine if you don't mind. Keep up the good work, your parts are looking great!

Thanks, Gary Stover

Alot of people do use the Krider blue, But I used Duplicolor Royal blue and have had alot of other builders really like the color.
It's alot easier and you will get a better finish than the 3 steps Krider takes.
The Duplicolor blue is closer to the blue used in the Empire Strikes Back droid.
